San Jose Founder Proves It's the Code, Not the Design, That Makes Websites Fast, and Shows Anyone How to Check Their Own
Two versions of the same online store scored 73 and 100 on Google's speed test. The only difference was the code.
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 7, 2026 — Most small businesses and nonprofits judge their websites by how they look. ZenMasterWorks, a San Jose website studio run by founder Ari Subana, has published a public demonstration showing that what visitors never see, the code, decides how fast a page loads on a phone.
The demonstration is two versions of a sample online store, with the same photos, products, and background video. One is coded the way a default store theme typically is. The other is hand-coded to Google's own performance and accessibility standards. In mobile tests on October 7, 2026, Google's free PageSpeed Insights tool scored them:
- Typical coding: 73 Performance, 88 Accessibility, 92 Best Practices, 100 SEO (report)
- Optimized coding: 100 in all four categories (report)
Anyone can open both pages and run the test in about a minute:

Why it matters to readers
Many customers find local businesses, clinics, and community services on a phone, often on a slow connection. Google's PageSpeed Insights scores how quickly a page loads and becomes usable, how accessible it is to people with disabilities, and how well search engines can read it. A slow page can lose a visitor before it finishes loading.
"Business owners pay for how their website looks, and almost nobody checks how it's built," said Ari Subana, founder of ZenMasterWorks. "The two versions of this store look the same. Google's own test scored one 73 and the other 100, and the only difference is the code. My advice to any owner is simple: test your own site, fix the biggest problem the report names, and test again."
Verifiable results, published openly
ZenMasterWorks' own homepage recorded a perfect 100 in all four PageSpeed Insights categories on mobile, Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, and SEO, in a test on October 5, 2026. The report is public, and anyone can re-run the test: https://pagespeed.web.dev/analysis/https-www-zenmasterworks-com/bbomggz64x?form_factor=mobile
The studio also keeps a public incident log of every mistake it has made and the rule each one produced, more than 380 entries as of October 2026: https://www.zenmasterworks.com/incident-log.html
Free help for community organizations
ZenMasterWorks publishes occasional free, unsolicited website audits for organizations that serve their communities, explaining in plain language what slows a site down and which fixes matter most. Published audits: https://www.zenmasterworks.com/audits.html
How readers can check their own website in three steps
- Go to pagespeed.web.dev and enter the website address.
- Choose "Mobile" and look at the four scores.
- Open the report's list of issues and fix the first one it names, usually an oversized image or an unnecessary script, then test again.
Availability
ZenMasterWorks now offers its work as downloads: The 100 Website Standard, a 30-page guide to reaching all four perfect scores ($19), and ready-to-edit website templates built to the same standard ($29 each). Downloads are available immediately at https://www.zenmasterworks.com/.
Every download is available immediately on the honor system: there's no account, login, or payment check, and buyers are asked to pay the listed price if they use a product.
"Some people won't pay, and that's okay with me," Subana said. "I understand that everyone's situation is different, and not everyone has the money right now. And some people just love free stuff, and that's fine too. I'd rather the work help someone than sit behind a paywall."
