Google Ads Strategy Guide

Bakery Blueprint

A companion guide to the Bakery Website Blueprint — built around the reality that same-day walk-in traffic and custom cake orders need completely different campaigns.

1. Bakery Search Intent Is Split in Two

Bakery PPC fails when it treats every searcher the same. In reality there are two very different buyers:

Realistic starting budget: $300–$700/month for a single-location bakery. Same-day terms are cheap per click but low margin per sale; custom-order terms cost more per click but a single wedding cake or catering order can be worth 20–50 same-day sales. That range is a suggestion, not a requirement — start at whatever amount you're actually capable of sustaining monthly and scale up as it proves out.

2. Campaign Structure

Campaign 1 — Same-Day & Walk-In

bakery near me fresh bread [city] croissants near me best donuts [city] bakery open now

Campaign 2 — Custom Cakes

birthday cake bakery [city] wedding cake bakery near me custom cake order cake decorator [city]

Campaign 3 — Corporate & Event Catering

pastry catering [city] office breakfast catering dessert catering near me

Match types tight: phrase and exact only. Broad match on "bakery" pulls in recipe searches, baking classes, and equipment shopping fast.

3. Negative Keywords

bakery jobs · how to start a bakery · baking recipes · baking classes near me · bakery equipment · wholesale bakery supplies · cake recipe

4. Ad Copy Direction

Same-day ads

Custom-order ads

Same-day and custom-order ads should almost never share a landing page. Someone searching for a wedding cake wants to see photos and get a quote form; someone searching "bakery near me" wants hours, address, and what's fresh today. Sending both to the homepage buries the one thing each visitor actually came for.

5. Landing Page Alignment

Ad ThemeLanding Destination
Same-day terms#bake — the Today's Bake board, not the homepage top
Custom cake terms#services — the custom cakes section, with lead-time messaging visible
Catering termsDedicated catering section (Orders & Catering tier)

A visitor clicking a "wedding cake" ad who lands on a page about today's croissants will bounce — they need to see photos and a path to a quote immediately, not a live bake board meant for walk-in customers.

6. Conversion Tracking

  1. Phone call & form conversions — the primary conversion type for custom-order and catering campaigns, where a quote conversation has to happen before a sale.
  2. Direction requests / click-to-map — the most realistic conversion signal for same-day campaigns, since the actual purchase happens in-store.

7. Bidding Strategy

8. Suggested First-90-Days Budget Split

Campaign% of BudgetRationale
Same-Day & Walk-In35%Builds local recognition, cheap clicks
Custom Cakes45%Highest per-order value
Corporate & Event Catering20%Lower volume, largest single orders
This guide assumes the site itself shows real lead-time expectations for custom orders — the kind built into the Bakery Blueprint's Orders & Catering tier. Running cake-order ad spend against a page with no clear ordering timeline just generates phone calls asking "how far ahead do I need to order," which a visible answer on the page would have already handled.
